Getting Creative with Creative Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (February 5, 2015) –The entrepreneurial spirit and ingenuity of Oklahomans will be on display for world leaders when the Creativity World Forum takes place in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, March 31. The Creativity World Forum highlights the need for “ideas that have value” and those that allow individuals, businesses and communities to move beyond the status quo, to grow and to succeed. Hosted by Creative Oklahoma, the day-long forum will feature inspirational talks by keynote speaker Sir Ken Robinson, world-renowned expert on creativity and innovation in business and education. Some of the greatest minds in the world’s business community, including executives from The Walt Disney Company and LEGO Education, will be on hand to discuss the importance of innovation and the impact it has on the business environment.

“Creativity is defined internationally as the generation of ideas that have value,” said Creative Oklahoma president, Susan McCalmont. “The forum not only provides Oklahomans the opportunity to see what creativity looks like on a global scale, but to showcase and highlight the successes of local innovators to business leaders and educators from around the world.”

The forum’s theme, “All Our Futures: Ideas That Matter,” is based upon Robinson’s publication “All Our Futures: Creativity, Culture & Education.” It will be the platform for forum attendees to celebrate and share ideas across multiple disciplines. The festive environment will feature innovative exhibitors, visual and performing artists and interactive conversation groups.

In addition to the forum, Creative Oklahoma will also be showcasing the creative and innovative culture of multiple regions in the state to a team of international delegates as part of a Reverse Mission project.

The forum will be Oklahoma’s fifth such event since hosting the Creativity World Forum in 2010 and is designed to inspire and educate attendees about the importance of creativity. As a way to accomplish this goal, Creative Oklahoma also invites the public to participate in a number of initiatives aimed to ignite creative conversations across the state.

The #YourIdeasMatter social media campaign invites the public to share ideas as major issues facing the world are addressed. Topics will include education, energy and livable cities. Creative Oklahoma’s cSchool faculty, along with creative minds from across the state, will discuss the ideas gathered from the social media campaign and the best solutions will be chosen and later discussed at the Creativity World Forum.

Also, in partnership with Love’s Travel Stops, Creative Oklahoma is seeking ideas from Oklahoma students in grades K-12 that solve problems in schools and communities as a part of the Love’s Creative SPARKS! Awards program. All submissions must be completed online at http://nie.newsok.com/creative-sparks-2015/ by Friday, Feb. 27.

Kiplinger’s recently ranked Oklahoma City as the top startup city in America for young entrepreneurs. To highlight the successes of Oklahoma start-up companies, and to possibly provide additional capital for their ideas, Creative Oklahoma will be hosting a “Dream Big Oklahoma” entrepreneurial competition.  The six winners will present their business plans to business and financial experts in an intensive three-hour workshop. The event is being organized by Rogers State University and will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, March 30 at the Civic Center Music Hall.

Other associated events include the Creativity Ambassadors Gala on March 30thcSchool-led sessions focusing on ideas generated during the #YourIdeasMatter social media campaign, a VIP luncheon highlighting creative partnerships between Oklahoma and Rwanda and an after-party and creativity salon held at Untitled ArtSpace following the forum.
